ONE WEEK OF MADNESS:THE FIESTAS DE LA MERCE IN SEPTEMBER
Every year, during the last week of September , Barcelona prepares to celebrate its Fiesta Mayor (Mayor Festival) and commemorate the festivities of the Mare de Deu de la Merce, the patroness of the city. The different activities that are scheduled will have a great variety. You will be able enjoy a large musical and theatre offering at different venues all over town like the Plaza San Jaume, la Avenida de la Catedral, Plaza del Rei, Port Vell and Plaza Reial.Also, el Ball de Gegants (Dance of Giants) and el Correfoc (shows with fire) are being celebrated and one of the Festivals´classics, el Piromusical, a fire works extravaganza, is set at the fountains of the Montjuic. This event will light the Barcelona sky while recent music of all five continents is being played.
If Barcelona is like a ´fiesta´ every day, this will without any doubt be the most special, one in which all citizens and visitors participate. Live it!!
